About us

Altitutor was founded by a group of tutors, who wanted a better way to do tuition.

We found that individual tutors (including ourselves!) often struggled with providing a complete education for students, while tutoring with larger companies lacked personalised learning. That’s why we developed a teaching model which we believe provides the best of both worlds.

We were also unhappy with how families with less money were often unable to afford tutoring, potentially stopping their children from getting into the courses they want to.

Our values

Tutoring is ridiculously lucrative. We know.

Altitutor doesn’t want to be just another tutoring company which makes bucketloads of money. We want to make a real, tangible change in the lives of the students we encounter – and we’re not just saying that. To put our money where our mouth is, our company is completely not-for-profit, meaning all of our revenue goes back into teaching students who can’t afford it.

Fairness and equality

Altitutor is a not-for-profit company with the primary mission to provide education to students who cannot afford it. Our subsidy program allows students who need it to study with us for free or at a reduced cost. Subsidy students receive the same resources and quality of education as any of our other students.

Transparency

As a parent, we want you to know you're getting exactly what you pay for. That's why we have a booking tool for parents to organise a meeting with their child's tutor(s) at any time during the week, to have a chat about questions or concerns.

Need support? Apply for our subsidy program.

Student enjoyment

We want students to enjoy lessons enough that they actually want to come to tutoring. This includes initiatives such as no homework - we're so confident in our teaching programs that for most students, we don't need to set any extra work to do at home. Of course, for students who are motivated enough to WANT to do extra work, we have plenty of additional resources available.

We also have free snacks and drinks during lessons 🙂

Community

On top of getting our students to achieve good scores, we aim to build a community of engaged learners, who can help and learn from each other while having fun together.

On our part, this includes initiatives such as getting students to help and teach each other, hiring our students as staff members once they graduate, and end-of-year student parties.

Our past students have made lifelong friends at Altitutor 🙂

Our teaching method

A question we get asked a lot is “why would I choose you over other tuition companies or private tutors?”

As much as we can list the features of our program and try to convince you to choose us, the best way for you to decide is to book a free trial session with us. This gives you the best chance to get a sample of how we teach, and decide whether you would like to continue with us.

That being said, here are our teaching methods

In class

Students attend a teaching lesson each week for each subject they study with us, in which we teach them course content ahead of school.

01. Revision and consolidation

At the beginning of each session, students complete a revision sheet / do flashcards for all of the content they have learned up to that lesson. We do this so students don't have to relearn any of the content before their exams - because they already know it!

02. Learning ahead

Students are provided with with comprehensive notes and practice questions, and taught the content ahead of their school. This method aims to make learning at school easier, so they can focus on their assessments.

03. Assessment preparation

Once we finish each topic, we complete a topic test together with the students so they can learn assessment strategies from their tutor. We do a test for every lesson after that until the student feels confident with that topic, and only then will we move on to the next topic.

Out of class

Our support doesn’t stop when you leave our office. Any student studying with us continues to receive guidance on whatever help they need during the week.

Homework help session

If students need additional help with schoolwork, they can come to our 3-hour homework help class for free! This may include:

- Assessment preparation: we can give you even more practice tests for any upcoming assessments you have.
- Assignment drafting: one of our tutors can help you write your assignment, or draft an assignment you've already written
- Catchup on missed lessons: if you're struggling with a particular concept or need to catch up

24/7 access to guidance

All of our weekly students get unlimited access to our question helpline, where students can ask tutors questions during the week.

Online resource access

Our online resources comprehensively cover every aspect of the subject, including notes, video lessons, flashcards, practice questions, tests and exams. All of our students get free access to the online resources for the course(s) they are studying with us.

Interested? Discover the courses we have to offer.

Our team

Our team is made up of passionate, driven people who want not only to see our students improve their scores, but to create a community of young learners who will eventually join our team to teach the next generation.

We are always looking for more tutors and administration staff to join us and we would love to have you on board. To find our more about the company roles we have and positions available, click here.
