What is an inference question?

An inference is not copied word-for-word from the passage. It is the conclusion best supported by the available evidence.

The city reduced bus fares at the beginning of September. In the same week, two new routes began serving suburbs that previously had limited public transport. Passenger numbers were higher in September and October than during the same months the previous year. Transport officials welcomed the increase but said the available data could not show how much was attributable to the fare reduction and how much to the new routes.

VR asks for the option best supported, not one that is merely imaginable.

Use an evidence chain

Weak conclusion: “Lower fares caused the entire increase.”

Hi, I'm Matt - I'm a doctor working across a few hospitals in South Australia. I founded Altitutor with some friends while I was in medical school, with the mission of providing accessible education to those who can't afford it. Over the years, Altitutor has provided free or subsidised education to hundreds of students, and I'm proud to say that our first cohort of students are now fully qualified doctors, dentists and other working professionals!

With the launch of Altitutor UCAT, we want to now extend the not-for-profit mission of Altitutor to reach more students who have the motivation to get into medicine, but don't have the money to pay for tutoring or online preparation tools.
